A Secret Place

16 Jan

What is it about a bathroom? Uses for it are numerous. There is the luxury tub for relaxation, pampering or soothing aching bones. And what person doesn’t sound great using the acoustics in the shower while singing a favorite tune? The bathroom can serve as an escape from the demands of small children for a moment, because it’s the only room in the house with a lock! (Please don’t tell me I’m the only mother who did this when my children were little!) Others use it to muffle the cries of a broken heart or to pray – to ask, to confess, to surrender.

The bathroom at the church where I worked years ago was often my place to escape when work and life overtook me. I needed to go there and ask. Needed to confess sin. Needed to surrender. My bathroom at home and where I currently work, hold the same escape for me.

I wonder if this is similar to what Jesus meant in Matthew 6:6, “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

The issue is not the bathroom, but that you have a place to go where you can:

P raise

R epent

A sk and

Y ield in secret –

not seeking honor or attention of people. Just doing business with the Father – the two of you alone. He takes notice. He rewards such transactions.

So people…Enjoy your bathroom!!!

What a fun post! I do enjoy my bathroom. Especially the tub. That’s where I often think, pray and plan. And no, you’re not the only mother who did that. The bathroom kept me sane. : )
